For those who had never even heard of this series of comic before, I will briefly introduce what this comic series is about.Basically, from the title itself you can tell it is about basketball. It is a story about how some high school boys strived for the Champion's position in the Inter-high School Tournament. The comic describes the type of confidence these boys possess in their strive for the first position and the difficulties they face in their quest in being the best team of the country.
The main characters....
SHOHOKU TEAM
Takenori Akagi
Captain of the Shohoku Team. Haruko's brother. He has been wholeheartedly devoted to basketball ever since elementary school. His enthusiasm is amazing. His dream is to become the champion of Japan.
Kaede Rukawa
Famous as a basketball star player since his junior high school days. He is the object of adoration by girl students including Haruko. He is always cool and straight-faced. He never laughs. He becomes Hanamichi's life-long rival due to his popularity and his cool character.
Hanamichi Sakuragi
Hanamichi sakuragi is a well known character who has been continuously rejected by no less than 50 girl students for the three years of his junior high school days. A person easily elated by flattery, he started to play basketball in an attempt to be liked by Haruko. His aim is to become a basketball superstar. No one knows why, but he has red hair.
Ryota Miyagi
The point guard of the team. Although his height crippled his abilities in basketball, his speed and sharp passings made up for it. He is not at all viewed as the weakness of Shohoku's Team, instead, Hanamichi is the weaker player. He secretly carries a torch for Ayako.
Hisashi Mitsui
The shooting guard of the team. His speciality is his three pointer which proves to be of great importance to the team. He is believed to be the coolest guy by many of the readers.
